Description:
At the end of the prologue to Clear and Present Danger, Clancy writes, "And so began something that had not quite begun and would not soon end, with many people in many places moving off in directions and on missions which they all mistakenly thought they understood. That was just as well. The future was too fearful for contemplation, and beyond the expected, illusory finish lines were things fated by the decisions made this morning--and, once decided, best unseen." In Clear and Present Danger nothing is as clear as it may seem. The president, unsatisfied with the success of his "war on drugs," decides that he wants some immediate success. But after John Clark's covert strike team is deployed to Colombia for Operation Showboat, the drug lords strike back taking several civilian casualties. The chief executive's polls plummet. He orders Ritter to terminate their unofficial plan and leave no traces. Jack Ryan, who has just been named CIA deputy director of intelligence is enraged when he discovers that has been left out of the loop of Colombian operations. Several of America's most highly trained soldiers are stranded in an unfinished mission that, according to all records, never existed. Ryan decides to get the men out. Ultimately, Clear and Present Danger is about good conscience, law, and politics, with Jack Ryan and CIA agent John Clark as its dual heroes. Ryan relentlessly pursues what he knows is right and legal, even if it means confronting the president of the United States. Clark is the perfect soldier, but a man who finally holds his men higher than the orders of any careless commander. Along with the usual, stunning array of military hardware and the latest techno-gadgets, Clear and Present Danger further develops the relationships and characters that Clancy fans have grown to love. Admiral James Greer passes the CIA torch to his pupil, Ryan. Mr. Clark and Chavez meet for the first time. Other recurring characters like Robert Ritter and "the President" add continuity to Clancy's believable, alternate reality. This is Clancy at his best. --Patrick O'Kelley

Clear and Present Danger
Reviews:

starsOnce of Clancy's finest Works!
This is an unbelievable book. Mr. Clancy handled, an extremely complicated history of the drugs, the betrayal, the murder, the honour and finally the justice to spiders. During the pages of this book many large moral values gesponnen and cause a really positive read experience. FAST NOTE this book has high levels of the act of violence (he is it a military novel) and not schw50rendes few. (Comprable every two hours of reading off to a taxpayer R war film.

Drug spy morals.

Jack Ryan is promoted, and not pleased to find out about very dodgy drug operations being run in Colombia.

He and a military officer work together when revenge is taken on the CIA for interfering in the drug business to try and salvage a dangerous situation.

A pretty standard Clancy book.

starsCould not stop reading
Its someone, which is not real in measured value, announces, this book took me away totally on. I really believed, how I lived the fight with history. Large book, in high of degrees recomend it.

starsThe best
This is the best Clancy book, which I read. It doesnt much of ryan Jack, but it has a point more over the military than some its other books. It has also Mr. Clark in something activity in the end.

starsAm I getting old or tired of violence?
In my young person years I loved Messwerttom Clancys novel ` the red storm, which rises ', ` the hunt for red Octobers ', ` the cardinal of the Kremlin ', am stories, which are engraved in my juvenile understanding. Feeler gauges, technology, drama, heroische activities, people, which are not proud on serving their country -- something, which I could learn from my education in Spain. Later than I a break in the university needed, tended I, to hold measured value Tom Clancy: ` implementing regulations, ` the bear and the Drache '. I loved it straight. Thus I that reading off an old novel by one my Helder star-talk, thought Jack Ryan, became its an excellent company for my week holidays in south Carolina. And it was. But I stated that, this enjoyed times, I it not that much. Possibly it was the low value, which was possibly attributed to human life, it, was the parallelism, which I could draw with the present situation in US and my present distaste with the old Adagio ` the end justifies the means, possibly I is tiredly from the war, from the act of violence and from the terrorism from the daily messages. Anyway if your conscientiousness is thus hardened the fact that you are not interested in this more goes you for it. They have fun. By the way south Carolina was large: friendly people, warm and sunny weather, tasteful food, nice beaches and lots history.

starsClear and Present Danger
Clear and Present danger is an action packed and informing novel by Tom Clancy. It places you into the United States government fight the war on drugs. The government is stepping up its assault on teh druggies after the director of the FBI is killed in Bogota. A young staff sergeant Domingo Chavez joins the fight as a scout in an elite group of soldiers fighting the druggies directly.
This book is excellent, both in its exciting storytelling and realistic twist. I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys very technical writing, or anyone who enjoys a good action story.

starsBest of Clancy's Books
I'd go as far to say this is better than The hunt for Red October. Compared to the dire offerings Clancy serves up now such as Red Rabbit, this book is good enough to make you wonder if it was not written by a different author.

The plotting is very tight, and action is nicely placed. At 600 odd words this is still a long book, but short for Clancy. The asassination of the American ambassador is as a couple of reviewers pointed out, not until about 300 pages in, but there is more than enough to keep your attention until then. Clancy's strong point was never characterisation, and some of his books I feel just sag with the weight of words (and extraordinarily long chapters). I remember reading other novels of his and skipping paragrapahs here and there. This one I didn't put down until I had finished it.

Politically, it's his most sophisticated as well. I always feel that sometimes Clancy was too comfortable painting a picture of the US as whiter than white - here, he brings in elements of moral ambiguity as an illegal war is started in Columbia.

There is still enough military hardware and action too keep you going as well - and not too much to overload you. Overall, I feel this is his best work, his most balanced and clever book. If he could produce something half as good as this, it would still be better than the tripe he has served up recently.

starsWiz Bang Page Turner
The history of the book goes a high classification offical United States killed into Colombia, and socking United States desire answer. This is the fifth book in the Jack Ryan row. Everyone would be recommended.

starsCovert Operations in Friendly Country: Ultimate Suspense
The book begins like modern headlines and upper stories in the messages: a coast guard boat discovers that some dead bodies on a driving boat out at the sea... the scenes understand arranging... the captain and its crew grisly the details you, which became all too free. Before the discovery they announce their intention, which find boat to flat, only two Kolumbianer, which speak and as sin guiltily look few. The captain and the crew have the presence of mind to note to on film durably what found. They choke nearly on, which they find. Opposite to the usual procedure, they cause for "justice an attempt falsified at the sea", which is based on manual of any old sailor. It is fair the right film script to cause for of of fear in its prisoners the one confession of them extracted the fact that the coast guard stands above with court and receives it pursued believes. In Washington DC secret enterprises are accomplished, thus a secret American plan the most talented NachtKrieger, which produced US army at all, in order to fight the drug trust in Colombia, is used on their own lawn. All chosen group Spanish roots have and from a life on the roads, in those them against the system would surely work saved to establish around a clean life in the army... the better alternative. This book shows, as Politiken, secret handshake decisions arise to energy and behind the scenes enterprises, which the core values of a country shake up could. Secret activities work outside of the borders of the national and international law. If they were formed public, it a very large protest of the USA citizens and the world judgement would give. It is this time that Jack Ryan responsible person director of the CIA becomes. The CIA director is in the hospital with a terminal illness... The present president does not have a reference point of, as the drug war fights and is won. It considers the results only: Drogekartelflugzeuge are down shot and US to win. It is one election year, wins its principal interest a positive position in the tunings and with world opinion. He knows very few from reality... Meanwhile, when the second in the instruction of the drug trust is discovered, in order the functioned on * information classified in high degrees *, DC fly admits to have only to A * chosen * few, the accusations in Washington. An inaugurating investigation begins to discover where the leaks arose... This book is difficult continuous activity and to set itself down. Each chapter uncovers another complicated episode, which adds another layer under handed agreements and shady activity, which form this a fulfilment reading experience. Although this novel is to be sometimes followed with difficulty, the topic is contemporary and the Unfoldingfaelle is plausible in high of degrees and forms it a unstoppable page Turner. The planning and the execution ninja ninja styled of the Kriegerkommandos, the astute secret service operations in high of degrees, the political subterfuge and communications are great are the labyrinthine and frighten in its reliability. Expect that only the best of Tom Clancy... It is disappointed never. Erika Borsos (erikab93)

starsAmazing
amazing book one of my new favorites. this was my first Tom clancy Novel and i was gripped from the beginning. the detail put into the novel and how in the end everythign gets tied together so well is proof of the authors great writing.

i recommend this to any Clancy fan.

starsan accomplished voice performance
More veteran-languageimplementing, J. Charles one not only the erreichtsten audio book storytellers is -, those today, he work, are also one of the beschaeftigtsten. seem listeners and publishers to know that, if Mr. Charles lends his telling abilities to a production them will be in high degrees listenable. An example is its transmission of this techno-thriller by the incomparable Tom Clancy. Again Mr. Clancy tears his topic of the today's headlines - to fight up of our country against drugs violently. While history opens, ours is commander in chief not at completely pleased with progress, which is formed in this battle. Thus an impressing crew is sent to Colombia, in order to set an end to the fight. It does not function as intended. Drug lords, as it admits explain that no grace and they take themselves revenge, by killing civilians. A besieged president gives orders to delete in order not to only terminate the original plan however it. It should look, as if it never existed. If Jack Ryan, now delegate director for the CIA decides that this broken off plan unbeknownst on to him went and some men are washed ashore discovered, Ryan, to save it. On applicable Clancy way is it Ryan for rescue, but it is a heart, fight stops. - Gail Cooke

starsDon't Even Waste your time with this book!
Free and present danger is at the points OKAY, but the remainder of the novel bores with the CIA work, which realistically, the historical counter acting forces do not feel activity between the commands on on for hundreds of sides, which boring details of, a ship is how large, which bores! If you liked to read a MATERIAL ONE and an exciting novel, read Bob Mayers eyes of the hammer. Bib Mayer is a former officer of of the special forces to arrive is the activity there, and is differently than this book MUCH EXCITING, in which you hundreds of sides go through must, at the activity.

starsTom Clancy does it again
I am a large Tom CLancy fan and I loved straight each minuzioesen measured value this very well getane book. Very well written could not have been better done. Mr. Clancy always held me on the edge and erIST in the situation, in alot himself for large information to set and he knows soo much over alot of, which he writes into his book

starsGreat read
I haven't read too much Tom Clancy up until this point, but this was the best of the ones I've read so far. I picked up Clear and Present Danger because the movie based on this novel is one of my favorites. Going in, I was expecting this to be similar to the movie, so I was pretty surprised to find that while some of the situations are the same, most of the action is quite different. The book is quite a bit more realistic, which of course means that the film is immensely more entertaining. My only real complaint about the story is that the beginning scene with Red Wegener and the Coast Guard goes on too long for its overall impact on the story. I did like reading some beefed-up rolls for both John Clark and Domingo Chavez, who are two of my favorite Clancy characters.

If you've seen the movie and want to read something akin to the screenplay, this is the wrong place to look, but if you're looking for a more realistic, and more special forces-intensive version of that story, this is a great read.

starsRealistic Story
This was one that of the Clancys finest work. The president tacitly authorizes an invalid war against Colombian drug lords in the retaliation for the murders at the managing government officials. Jack Ryan, the evenly determined DDO of the CIA is held for the illustrations from the delikten of the mismatching advisor and the CIA's DDI (delegate director Staatssicherheit of the president of intelligence) out from the loop however and determined, in order to arrive at the lower surface of the affairs. However I they read very long history to straight unite days.

starsVery Good well worth the time
"Clear and Present Danger" is an awesome action packed novel that will not let you stop reading it for a minute. I did get the names mixed up occasionally but I get confused fairly easy. I made a profile sheet with each characters name and a profile a sentence or two long and immediately the problem went away. There is no reason why someone shouldn't read this book that is interested in a good action. If you don't read this book you will be wishing that you had.

starsClancy Always Asks ... What If?
What if... the President decided to get serious about the war on drugs? What if he used the military as not only to stop the transport, but also stop the manufacture of drugs?

In this tale, three soldiers do battle. Mr. Clark is the CIA operative who provides intelligence for the military action. Domingo Chavez is a warrior; an infantryman sent under orders to do battle - and ultimately abandoned. Jack Ryan is the new CIA deputy director who figures it all out - and won't abandon faithful soldiers even if it means his life.

starsSome problems...but good overall
Free and present danger begins out with the coast guard, that finds three upper American officials killed on their yacht, and which is men, who are loaded with the murder, from the Cali drug trust in Colombia, thus, at the Cali trust back too receives, the president prepares then a secret secret service operation of the preselected special forces forwards, in order to get justice to the trust back. Jack Ryan returns to the illustration, with the dying admiral James of the Greener at the cancer, and now he is left responsible as DDI of the CIA, but Jack does not know in the secret service operation in Colombia out, since they wish Jack not to intervere in the enterprises. Comes in such a way into Domingo Chavez, east L.A. Chicano, now which its life around turn, by connecting the United States army and a Foerster becomes, and is it the preselected person to go to to Colombia the drug lords to fight. Now, while they become finished to train for the enterprise Jack does not have an IDEA, which it is loose but he knows that somewhat right does not have, and they hold quiet kind over the enterprise. While they arrive to Colombia, John Clark lets the enterprise run and responsible for the complete thing. Jack and John Clark know each other from the Rescusing MAIN (United States spy in the Kremlin) from and from getting he to America, in which he lives in the exile. Now one of the men of the Cali of trust gets into a woman, who works for the CIA and upper secret information about the enterprise has, and finds to this of the upper men, which goes the enterprise to Colombia run lets, thus its men an ambush sets up out and tackles their convoy. Now the enterprise keeps more intensive, where they bombard the house of the drug lord, and it forms it looks like an autobomb. The Cali drug trust finds out now there, what it is loose they are now hunt it in the strong forests Colombia of the thanks of the Colombian military, which it has complete control of owing to money. Now Jack Ryan finds out then, what is loose, and is dead the secret service operation, and they leave the men in Colombia on their. Jack goes then down to Colombia saving the men from the hidden dangers to which the Cali must offer to drug trust. Now Jack saves the men, and the president lost the choice, and now president Fowler is so now in the office, Jack has a new boss, together with a new enemy: Elizabeth Elliot; the public security advisor, who hates Jack with an inclination. The book begins from slow, but worth a good is read too receives in calm.

starsBoring and Trite
I believe that most work bores Clancys unoriginal and a little is, but free and present danger to me as a woman was personally insulting. The only female letter is protrayed, as unintelligent and permiscuous. It was who away the upper secret plans gave, and went over it in a very sticky way: during one afair with someone, which used it for their information. This was rather hard, so that I look past. Plus I did not enjoy Clancys monotonous deviating thing anout insignificant individual parts as, how efficient a rifle is or how large a ship is. To me it was simple uninteresting, and I enjoy normally descripvtive novels.

starsA Few Problems but Good Over All
This book has its problems, but over all, it is pretty good. I like really Tom Clancys kind of the letter; it goes peppering never more than one side or two, without it above with dialogue. History was a kind of slow of keeping going to although something of by the size of the book excusable is (half of the free and present danger is many more sides than half of your average novel). I like the.large.number.of Nebenhandlungen and during the last hundred sides could I her hardly down set. I really terminated the book in smaller than one week. The hauptprobleme, which I have with this book, are the verfluchen (Tom Clancy really went over board) and the overstressing of the word "hybrid". I know that he seems strange, but he really diverted me of history, in order to have people on whole earth from using this individual word, in order to designate someone, which is rejected. A word of the warning - this is a LONG book. A total quantity from 656 sides, is it not a read short-circuit. As I said above, this is a good book. I read a number of the classical authors, who are enough from the J. R. R. Tolkiens The lord of the rings up to king advice by James Clavell, but Tom Clancy is my personal favourite. You are safe to read this book.

starsMarvelous!
This was my first Tom Clancy and is still my absolute favourite!

starsThe U.S. gets serious in the "war on drugs"
The coast guard intercepts a Luxuxyacht, in which a brutal murder arose to 4 United States citizens. The two Kolumbianer on board are forced into admitting to the murder, and gov't terminated above with the critical information concerning are the drug trade. With these information and the decision of the president that invalid drugs represent a "free and present danger" it is discharged, some enterprises, in order to strike the Colombian trust, in that hurt it. Between financial seizing in the hundreds of millions and surgical impacts on supplying lines, the activity and interesting remain fast-walked. During my Lieblingsclancy book, it nevertheless the fun was not to read to to the intensive end to the right down. Also the advancement Jack Ryans of the career with the CIA and adding of John Clark (a small more charcter "in the cardinal of the Kremlin"), adds the human factor of history. The activity is large and although the language is sometimes pretty rough, I enjoyed, reading it.

stars"Present Danger" Clearly a Clancy Classic
The fourth installment of the Jack Ryan series (its plot overly simplified in the 1994 movie) moves its stalwart protagonist, CIA analyst Jack Ryan, into new and more dangerous territory as he rises up the chain of the Agency's command structure.

It's also a new challenge for Clancy as his novels shift their focus from U.S.-Soviet confrontation and international terrorism to the more shadowy worlds of drug smuggling and the nature of covert operations. It also explores such notions as the rule of law, the proper application of military force, the niceties of international law, and the need for good men to stand up for their beliefs, even if it means standing up to the President of the United States.

Clear and Present Danger is a very complex work. It starts with the interception of a drug-carrying yacht whose rightful owners have been murdered viciously by two Colombian "sicarios" employed by the Medellin Cartel. From this seemingly routine event, a chain of escalating events culminating with the Cartel's bold attack on three American envoys in Bogota (Colombia's capital)leads to a Presidential decision that will have dire consequences both at home and abroad.

Here, too, Jack Ryan must face the pitfalls of his ascent up the ladder at Langley. His mentor and surrogate father, Admiral James Greer, is suffering from cancer and Ryan must step into his post, not knowing that the President's new and shifty National Security Adviser, Adm. James Cutter, has dragooned the Directorate of Operations and CIA Director Arthur "Judge" Moore into carrying out a covert and illegal scheme to combat the drug cartels using military assets and the talents of CIA paramilitary operative John Clark. By the conclusion of this novel, Ryan, too, will be caught in the tangled web of Cutter's scheme, and the repercussions of the "Colombian Affair" in both Ryan's professional and personal lives will linger on in later novels of this series.

starsA Nice Change of Pace...
This novel was a nice change of the step for Clancy. Instead of you seize the Russians (although I missed Sergey Nicolaovich Golovko), it decided, to a problem to go on, which is still around after the case of the Soviet connection and the end of O the cold war. So to begin straight if you are not a cold krieger or up to history into the USSR/USA relations, do not provide yourselves, this novel are more for you. The thing, which I enjoyed largely over this book, was not, although John Clark in the cardinal of the Kremlin (by far my Lieblingsclancy novel) appeared, he affects Jack Ryan up to now. This novel develops also more from Clark behind, as we can see more teh the fact that it has a military backround and that it does hidden missions. In order to go together with Clark further, we are introduced to Domingo "bells" Chavez on its military days - guideline Ninjas the night! I enjoy the way, which writes Clancy over bells, because it, as if its output idea was, will thus have bells in this novel, at most the history of ringing only its LA backround seemed uncovered now, inclusively. Now to a okaybuchstaben in this novel, Jack Ryan. This novel puts Ryan into a more political role. Differently than the hunt for red Octobers, Patriot Patriot-Spiele and the cardinal of the Kremlin, Ryan is not the hero of this history. Of course Ryan helps leader history along, but apart from giving the reader entrance to the CIA Ryan to be shown is only here, that people are in the new posistions generally, [ lower surfaces ] to cover of the people in posistions over them. I think that the only down side of this novel is admiral James Greer. Which Clancy does to this letter, is aweful this. I really wish that the Greer could have continued on into newer novels, but most CIA's upper people behind this book does not go, since you find, if you read the sum of all fear. All in all, I would really give good markings to this book. As always, even if you saw the film, the book is another history. The only thing, which could hold people, is the long eye. This book employs much soldier, therefore you receive the jargon of the soldiers.

starsIncredible tale by 4.6 stars, best is yet to come.
This had a large difference of the film. The film kills away Jack FBI of the friend. But this book and future books is still alive he and copes up a director. Also chavez and Clark meet here above.

starsBest Book I have ever read!!!!!!!
I am not the largest clancy fan, but I could not set this book down. The activity straight never stopped to move and continued developing during the book. The last hundred sides held me on the edge of my seat. I would recommend this book to all readers, even if you are not the largest clancy fan

starsThis was Clancy when Clancy was Clancy!
I enjoy earlier work clancys in the steckfassung ryan of the row (hunt for red Octobers, Patriot Patriot-Spiele, Kardinal of the Kremlin). to me free and present danger is one of the best in the steckfassung ryan row is really role ryans in this book nearly secondly of the quantity main interest in this work is on the green toques and their special ops in Colombia. in this book there is not much technical information to understand to try to the fact that... it is fair a good history clancy paints a realistic illustration in this... the lines between the good chaps and the bad chaps becomes smeared and them gives the book a larger feeling of realism the book is MUCH better than the film to jump over you not the book, straight because you the film did not see the book is 10mal better.

starsTruely a great Clancy novel
The fact that the whole basis of this book is actually very possible makes you want to keep going and going as Clancy jumps from scene to scene, and interweaving all the plotlines into one larger scheme just makes it that much better. His description of the characters and events makes you feel as if you were really there with Chavez and the rest of his unit in the Columbian Jungle. Of the two Clancy novels I have read this is a lot better, the other being Rainbow Six, and I feel if you liked that book this will help you better understand the relationship between Clark and Chavez better. I recomend this book to anyone who would like to read or already has read any Tom Clancy novels.

starsBelievable premise keeps you going...
The fact that the complete basis of this book is really very possible marks, you would like to go and go, since Clancy from scene jumps to scene, to weave and all story LINES into a larger draft to hold. This book presents letter, which, bells Chavez, is which hardly looks during the row and, together with John Clark, a main letter in ' rainbow six '. If you saw the film, ignore it. While the film was very good, the Plot was changed drastically compared with the book. Some people do not seem wieclancys nearly spirit-ill attention to the detail, but it keeps me deep into history... to more the detail the better. Fantasy increases only the experience of a large book. Sometimes you are surprised, why is somewhat important, but, before you know her, it becomes plentifully free ' the Patriot plays is not yet only my favourite in the row in addition, my favourite however all time. That its mentioned, ' free and present danger ' another classical Clancy is.

starsOne of Clancy's best
Clear and Present Danger is one of Tom Clancy's better Jack Ryan novels. The character development and story of Clark and Ding overshadows even the always interesting Jack Ryan. The action is almost constant (as is typical with Clancy books, the details can bog a reader down at times), and even though the book is very long, it is a quick read.

starsIt was hard for me to finish
After the first three books of the Jack Ryan series, I came to expect something better from Clancy. The storyline is plausible, but I had to force myself to finish the book. It never got me involved in the storyline and I had a lot of trouble understanding what was going on from chapter to chapter. I finally did force myself to finish the book and I'm still bitterly disappointed. The last punch was how late in the novel Jack Ryan was introduced. It was way too late for my attention span, and I have a long one. It is the only Clancy book that I have read that I do not recommend. Rent the movie and don't waste your money, effort, or time on reading the book.

starsA wonderful book
Large thriller, which sat only Jack Ryan book ive at all really and read. Generally it is inside thrown the film with a quantity small additional expenses. Is much better these additional expenses, which form the book. Precede and to buy you it and see you, what I mean.

starsA Lot Better Then The Movie
I terminated straight free and present danger and everything am I box, WOWS. This was my first Clancy novel, but it is not mine lasts. Which I liked, most were over it, the letter development red, Clark and bells. All three of these letters play main roles in the Plot of history. Which concerns, believed Jack Ryan I really that it was a supporting letter in this(he not real, it believed straight like that was). The reason is, because the other letters were, thus interesting you more about it to know wanted. And naturally you knew that Ryan would it(bilden, which is he the star of the row after all). Please you go not through the Plot of the film, are much better and much different the book. And I liked really the film!... But the film avowedly only only part of history, also the end is formed. Read the book!...

starsGreat page turner!
I truly enjoyed this book. I wasn't the normal Clancy book where Ryan's the main character and Clark is second to him. They seemed about equal with a lot from Chavez. This book focuses on a main issue in this country and how we should not handle it. Cutter made some bad decisions and in the end paid for them dearly. The best of them I've read so far.

starsExcellent Action Adventure
The President has declared an unofficial war on the Columbian drug lords. The CIA, using both conventional and unconventional forces led in large part by the mysterious Mr. Clark, begins a campaign which meets with stunning success. Unfortunately, the war is being waged without the informed consent of Congress, and when disclosure becomes a possibility, the ground forces are abandoned for the sake of deniability.

A very entertaining and action filled novel, and similar to Without Remorse, this war is waged against a clever but wholly unsympathetic enemy.

starsZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......
This book is long, man. This book took me one while, in order to receive in. After I terminated, I it finally. Large Plot, good dialogue, tons swearing O ', good activity. This is definitely a good book for hard core or beginner.

starsA very entertaining story
Free and present danger is another fast walked Clancy thriller. Although I did not believe that it was as good as some from its different, it was not far rear. Which I liked really over this book, the introduction Domingo Chavezs was to the letter as seargent in United States the army. Also in this book the reader sees that John Clark with Jack Ryan has the first meetings and Domingo Chavez and it is interesting to take place these first interactions to watch out. Although this is a Jack Ryan novel, it quite lasts when, so that its character seems longer and smoothes, so that he begins, history to become important, but interests history, even before this takes place. Like many people I like really the letter of Jack Ryan. I think that its character pleases in such a way, because he is an honest chap, who tries straight to do the right thing in a world of the dishonest people with their own hidden agendas fully. This history adds straight this attractive picture. I think, what helps, to form stories Clancys thus the fact is good that there is not always a free line between right and wrongly and you the "good chaps", sometimes sees you decisions to meet, which are not completely splendid. This is not as much characteristic of Jack Ryan, but like that from John Clark and from Domingo Chavez in this novel and in others. Because of this the reader is forced to weigh the obviously good activities of the letters with their little than admirable activities and to form their own judgements over each letter. In the free and present danger a hidden military enterprise goes on the way restraining the activities of the drug trust in Colombia considerably but it is legality designated in question.(This mission adjusted in motion before the murder at important United States the diplomats, although the description on the back of the novel reader is into thinking this mission a result of those deaths misleads). While this hidden mission takes place, letters are forced, in order to weigh the law with justice, since two the not always one are and the same and this is, which forms the in such a way interesting novel. In the end free and present danger a very interesting novel is worth a reading off for the interesting Plot and if you are a fan whole mentioned above by Ryan, Clark, Chavez or that. It is definitely worth reading off for each applicable Clancy fan.

starsClearly one of Clancy's best!
Clear and Present Danger happens to be one of my favorite Clancy novels (second only to Without Remorse). Clear and Present Danger is very fast paced. It seems to scramble your brain with the seemingly endless story lines but that makes it all the more gripping. I am a huge fan of John Clark and especially love this story because it is where he meets Chavez for the first time.

Jack Ryan has been promoted to deputy director of the CIA only to be left out of the loop and left with a huge coverup that has stranded American soldiers in a hostile land. Jack makes it his mission to get those men back and doesn't care who he crosses to facilitate their return.

Unfortunately, Jack's mentor, Admiral Greer passes away midway through this story, so for the most part Jack is on his own, but he makes the right choices and ultimately saves the day. He didn't get the nickname of Boyscout for nothing!

I think you'll really enjoy this book, especially if your a Tom Clancy fan. I don't suggest seeing the movie first, you might be turned off. It doesn't exactly follow the storyline of the book and the movie character of John Clark really is appauling.

I also suggest reading Cardinal of the Kremlin and Without Remorse. You won't be sorry!!

starsStill a great story.
This is not his best book but still worth a look.It is still a great story. Not superior. Ryan is up to his neck in trouble. A great ending.

starsClancy does it again!
Mr. Clancy further proves why he is the best in this genre with Clear and Present Danger. I read it once, and just recently read it again.

The book starts off with some Pirates(who in fact work for some drug dealers) doing some very bad and nasty things to a family on the boat.

The President notices, and declares the drug lords a 'clear and present danger to the national security of the united states' thus begging the opening to the whole plot line.

In this book we meet Domingo Chavez, who will later have parts in Rainbow six and Debt of Honor.

This, like all other Tom Clancy books has a well devopled story line and several plots ongoing throughout the novel.

I recemend this book to any Clancy Fan.

starsAnother Excellent Book From Clancy
I continue thinking that Clancy is a quality author and I read everything, which he (not the crew) writes. This is not an exception. The one thing, which I liked, is that the government something, which showed any mocxy I mean did that they set their foot down. They receive everything, which you expect from one of its books, large letters with a quantity of development, a strong historical line, many Unterseebootplots, which come together in detail the end and? Loose details over weapons, tactics and still something chaps may speak or read approximately.

starsAudio version a joke
This refers to the unabridged audio version of 'Clear and Present Danger'. The book is very long, and the way they squeeze it into a series of cassettes is bogus. They accomplish this feat in two ways. First, they use your tape player's balance control to get 2 sets of dialog on each side of each tape. Which means you listen to the left speaker and then the right, with a little bleed over so that you can't help but hear a little from the other speaker. But the biggest complaint is that the narrator speaks as fast as he possibly can to finish the book. It's unnatural sounding and not pleasant to listen to. Bottom line: Don't buy the unabridged audio book.

starsIf you like Clancy, you'll like Clear and Present Danger
A typical Tom Clancy book. The details can sometimes overwhelm and sink sometimes history, but on the other hand, the Tom Clancy is! Its development of the letters is great and last 1/4 of the book holds you on the edge of your seat. Maintained history is supposed in the book, over Chavez, a special Ops representative, that, together with a crew, to Colombia is secretly gotten to help, the drug lords to fight. Clancys clear descriptions of the crew meeting in Colombia is excellent. Entirely, a very good book. I begin now at the beginning of the Jack Ryan row, by reading the hunt for red Octobers.

starsDrug Warriors
Probably that explains most reflecting from all books Clancys, this the history of, which would happen, if the "cold" war on drugs to "were called" war developed. Made one decided sceptical film. Cogent representation takes place in the early stages, on board the Kuestenwachescherblockes. Also lots of that ring mark pave on board low helicopters, if you are into this kind of the thing.

starsThe Best of the Bunch
"Clear and Present Danger" is the best of Clancy's novels. I find it amazing that Clancy can conceive a storyline and more often than not that story comes to fruition in real life. I decided to read this one even though I had seen the movie and was astonished at how far the movie strayed from the book. The book is so much better with so much more detail (obviously) and a much more fluid storyline. I have read most of Clancy's novels and this one is the best of the Ryan series and probably my favorite of them all.

starsOne of Clancy's Classics
Generally, Tom Clancy can do no wrong in my eyes (except when he lends his name and his ideas to authors less able than himself so he can take a cut of whatever they earn). Clear and Present Danger is a perfect example of Clancy at his polished best - the guy simply sets new standards of storytelling excellence. Though he occasionally drifts into needless description [...], Clancy delivers the ultimate thrillers time after time. Where I might downgrade another author for ever-elaborating, Clancy can be forgiven because the rest of the book makes up for its few shortcomings. In brief, the U.S. ambassador to Columbia is murdered by drug lords. Enemy agents filter into the jungles and Central America is ready to explode. Jack Ryan, who has just been named CIA deputy director of intelligence is enraged when he discovers that has been left out of the loop of Colombian operations, because a group of highly trained American soldiers are stranded on an unfinished mission that officially never happened. Ryan decides to get the men out. Clear and Present Danger has all the ingredients of a Clancy Classic. And Clancy doesn't disappoint, sprinkling a plot her, a counter-plot there; a pinch of action here, a measure of suspense there. And finally stirring the carefully balanced ingredients so that the finished product is a tale that won't disappoint. When Clancy delivers, he delivers big time, and Clear and Present Danger is one of his best deliveries.

starsCollateral Damage
First of all, I must form it for FREE AREA indeed: This book is not over, which it can appear it is approximately first. It is not over drug wars, it is NOT over trusts, it is NOT over special enterprises. Well it has everything that, but the main things are different. This book concerning justice and honour is very most. This marks it a very good book. They can the fundamental Plotsubstanz other where read my report to concentrate to those moral points, which Clancy gets here above. E.G. which you, around peoples whom Gemetzel a family, do the married man in an educated manner them kill the woman and two small children before toetung watch out it (and chop it robs the woman before also), the bodies into small pieces, around which shark fish know to draw in and you that they receive away with it, if they receive a good attorney? Do you accomplish yourselves it? Is it justice? YES. Is it legal? NO. Clancy gets us so here to one of the most disputed and most difficult moral expenditures in the modern society: LAW AND JUSTICE GOING SOMETIMES INTO DIFFERENT WAYS. Those, which get justice, can keep even strictly punished by law. Surprisingly the criminal society on the opposite is far more effectively in justice in these cases expressed, no matter how strangely it can sound. Those, which slaughter small children, simply do not form it from alive of the prisons. Criminals do, what attorneys cannot do. But when FBI means, which you do a captain of a boat on, which reached proof of suspecting in an illegal way, but who was you right to think? Report you their senior or you let the man go? EXPENDITURE # 2: CONSCIENTIOUSNESS AND TASK LIKING POSSIBLY NOT ALWAYS AGREEING. And it is a very durable decision. Is it, justified to penetrate to an independent country in order to protect the interests of their? Sometimes. But the elections win? No. What over drug lordlord drug lords, without avoiding "kollaterale damage"? "kollaterale damage" are two heartless words, behind those lie life of the innocent women and the children. How does your conscientiousness carry the fact that you (possibly) reduce inintentionally killed kids "the river of the drugs" into your country? Certainly think a moral dilemma worth approximately. And, near the end of the book, Clancy shows that in all governments people are, which only try to protect their careers those here at nothing, suspension to the means to avoid stop. These are Traitors, which even are to sell their own soldiers -- kids still under thirty actually -- for them fight and their lives away for them give. Those is the sad truth. Final result: Free and present danger makes a quantity available mental impetus. It is, not that exciting and sometimes a POINT opens boring HOWEVER it your eyes on many difficult problems and incompleteness of the world, which we live inside. I think that it earns still five stars, since it is not fair spiritless activity-packed maintenance, which you were approximately forgotten soon. But, if you need only one book over "black ops" without many things to also occupy your busy brain them are four. Anyway you give it an attempt.

starsThe Worst Book I have ever read
This is the worst book at all. It is approximately 700 long sides and could 150 be. There are too many stories. It owuld is better, if it were fair over the soldiers in the jungles of Colombia. Clancy explains everyones life history and grandmothers life history there to you. The only good thing over this book is that Clancy is good up, which forms America well as country.

starsOne of Clancy's Great Books
Tom Clancy supplies book to this poweful and expertyly describes war America on drugs. After personal friends of the president are killed by drug runners, the president decides that the threat of the drugs is a very free and present danger. In order to employ this problem, it decides to send the hidden special enterprise excessive crews, those in Spanish, in Colombia is the neautroulize threat flowing to the American people. Although I thought, the beginning was, the book waives very fast a little slow. With interesting letters such as bells Chavez, Jonh Clark and Jack Ryan is read the book a very pleasing. This is by far one of my favourite books and I recomened this novel to each possible Clancy fan or everyone, which enjoys a good suspensful book. Enjoy!

starsSuperb plotting.
Tom Clancy may get a little bogged down in details at times, making passages of the book difficult to read and follow, but the way he weaves multiple plots together makes for fascinating reading as they unfold. I also applaud Clancy's character building. It is challenging to create non-stereotyped characters in a military novel; after all, the military is pretty famous for depending on stereotyping. Clancy makes this work in his favor. I was disappointed at his overall treatment of women...terms such as stating that one of the new female ensigns on Panache is "as cute as a button...". or later when the pilot of CLAW communicates with Wegener and he thinks to himself "...who sounded like a girl....Christ, they were everywhere now." Other than Clancy's obvious sexist attitude towards women in military positions, the book makes for good reading. I give an overall rating of 3 stars. In order to attain 5, in my opinion, Clancy needs to be less sexist and the ending needed a little more impact. As it ends now, it is anticlimactic. It was also a little unbelievable that Cutter ended up as he did. I won't say more so as not to ruin it for those that have not read it yet. No book is perfect, and with the few faults this one has, it is definitely a recommend on my list.

starsRiveting Story of Drugs War & Covert Military Introvention
Great and sometime gruesome story starting with the horrid scene of the president's friend and family tortured and then murdured by a drug lord's thugs. The extreme method of payback by the drug lord that in this case is in South America set the stage for a President initiating a covert operation against the drug lord. He does this through the use of a crack special forces unit that works in the jungle virtually alone to accomplish their mission with only radio communications to high tech aerial support that pinpoints and hits targets with missles from far away. Into the midst of this political turmoil and covert operation is thrust Jack Ryan. From the initial murder scene that is hard to forget, to the Coast Guard cutter crew's uinique method of forging a confession to the dark political compromise that leaves the forces to survive on their own, the book never stops with fast paced adventure including Clancy's ever detailed but helpful explanation of the military support systems from ground troops to aerial support. The realism of drug wars, hard behind the scenes politics and detailed explanation of military high tech hardware makes this Clany's best book.

starsStrong page-turner, but could be smoother
I will not be the first to note that Clancy loves technical gadgets too much.

I also find that sometimes sub-plot lines take too many pages to explore, I tried omitting the especially dull ones, and guess what - you still follow the plot perfectly, and the suspense does not suffer.

Generally, a very strong book. You could do much worse at an airport bookshop.

starsTom Clancy's Best yet
This is the best Clancy novel to come since Cardinal of the Kremlin. The way he described the military -- all the way from Navy Intruders, to Air Force Pave Lows, to Army Light Infantry --was amazing. I am a dedicated Clancy reader, and this one really blew me away. This is also a book for someone who has never read a book in the Jack Ryan series, because he introduces the charecters as if it were the first book. All in all, this is quite possibly, no, it is his best work of all. A brilliantly plotted, written, and planned novel.

starsClear and Present Danger
This exciting book really got my attenction. Tom Clancy pulled off a really good book. The drug war in Columbia comes to America when an important person gets assasinated. Jack Ryan takes control. A highly skilled task force is assembled and some major descicions will be made.......... I enjoyed this book greatly because of the excitement and suspence. This book was brilliantly written.

starsClear and Present Danger
This exciting book kept mine real attenction. Tom Clancy pulled a really good book down there. The drug war in Colombia comes to America, if an important person receives assasinated. Jack Ryan takes control. A task Force experienced in high of degrees assembled and some Hauptdescicions will become in an educated manner.......... I enjoyed this book largely because of the excitement and suspence. This book was shining written.

starsA surprisingly awesome novel
"Clear and Present Danger" is a surprisingly awesome novel. I borrowed it from my teacher, from whom I also borrowed "Patriot Games." At first, when I started this book, I thought that it was a little slow-moving. It was the first big one I read by Clancy, so I didn't no what to expect. About halfway through (almost 350 pages), I thought that it was getting to be a pretty good book. The stage was set for all the action to start really kicking in a lot, and the characters were really interesting (especially Mr. Clark). When I was done with, I was blown away. The last last 100 pages were incredible, and I thought, "This was one hell of a good book!" The plot was intelligently planned out, and certain aspects of the book were almost shocking. The action is very suspenseful (once it starts to get speedy) and it is also a very interesting book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read it but reads Clancy novels, but not to anyone who has never read his stuff. Now I'm hooked. I just got a few more of his books, and look forward to reading them. Also, if you've seen the movie, don't let it change your mind about reading it. The book is very different and much much better. If you planned on seeing the movie first, don't. This book is guaranted to keep you reading.

starsBest of Clancy
I have read every Clancy fiction book (not the Op-Centers or military history stuff) and this is my favorite. It is MUCH better than the movie -- if you skipped the read because of the movie, go back and read it!

starsAn excellent story
Clancy describes trusted the life and challenges in detail confronted by special forces. This history is then some a little different of its different. It marks Jack Ryan, but it is only one of the main letters in place of of the head. There is a quantity main interest set on the perspective of the units of the special forces, particularly behind hostile lines. The film did not take the intensive feeling of the Seins carnivore and this victim prisoner the soldiers experienced. Its plate, but the book ruined the film for me. If you liked the film at all, loved the book.

starsA great a story
`Clear and Present Danger' is an action book by Tom Clancy. It is to do with Colombian drug dealers who kill an American Ambassador, and the head of the F.B.I. This angers the president of the U.S enough for him to send undercover teams to Colombia, in the hope of exposing the dealers. But all of this information is kept back from Jack Ryan (C.I.A), and he tries to discover what is going on. He succeeds, but only to discover that the Vice-President has given away information to the Colombians, so they can kill the teams, he is a traitor. Ryan has to rescue the teams, and expose the Vice-President. This book is a complex book, but it was still quite enjoyable. It has an excellent story-line, the best I have ever read. But I think it is meant more for adults that for children and I found it quite challenging. I have also seen the film starring Harrison Ford, but I think the book is better as the film strays from the original a lot. I enjoyed this book, but I don't think it is meant for my age.

starsAnother great read by Tom Clancy
First of all, you let me permit that I am a large Tom Clancy fan. Although I brought me to the book closer with this pre-loading, I found her read a completely pleasing. In the free and present danger Clancy packs the hot topic of war America on invalid drugs on. Its solution is one, which I think that most readers, at least secretly, will accommodate something admiration for. The United States take up themselves a hidden war on the Colombian drug lords. As usual in the novels Clancys gives it to lot activity on many front sides. And as usual the CIA's Jack Ryan is in the middle in it quite. The book shifted a little fast at the end for my taste (I thought that the dissolution such of a complicated Plots earned little more time, than Clancy gave it), otherwise one could I it 5 stars have given. If you are a Clancy fan, love this.

starsCompelling Tale, but...
... not its best of all time. The fact that distinction belongs to the cardinal of the Kremlin, but this history is certainly one relavent and writing history of the drug trade in Colombia and in America. After an American citizen is killed by the Schurkeen, it seems like an opened and closed case of the Piraterie. To hurt but it discovered that the businessman had latch plates to the Colombian drug trusts and the president (who is never given a name in this book straight in his secret service code name, Wrangler) is determined, in order the trusts once and for all. Reciprocity operated with two parts is introduced. First is a reconnaisance enterprise in Colombia to find to the druggies and the other part refers also to shoot druggie surfaces before they can supply their charge. But the gloves come away to the director FBI, Emil Jacobs, killed into Bogota, and the advisor public security of the president orders a new enterprise: Reciprocity, which is meant to employ in order to kill drug producers, in order the drugs. However the NSA is spoiled, and the soldiers must fight for their lives. Jack Ryan comes naturally to the rescue. It does not have a large role in the center by the book. I thought that this book was large, better than the film, which I liked also much. The actor, who was thrown to the play knight in the film, was particularly good, but it did not look anything like knights, which I introduced myself. This book has tons of the bad language and although to be in the work Clancys to be expected its concentration as in its other books here is larger. It is a little long at the sides of the at the beginning of 100, but it keeps fast good. If you like Clancy, is this A must read.

starsexcellent book enough said
this book is an excellent novel. it has suprising realism about the situation in columbia. they have a great enemy in this book unlike the other books the enemys real power isnt strength but knowledge. this is an excellent book. i also recoomend u buy the or rent the movie it is always good

starsAnother winner by Clancy
First it surprised me me WHERE read in the WORLD Clancy at the beginning of this fantastischen went, but, until you represent that out, he has you going into totally different direction with some new Plotlinien, which can be surprised you the same thing. Great Plotten and to hardcontrary-stand a desire to inform which are responsible for drugs in this country the lesson combine, to this of surprising to form read. If you will be terminated some hours long the pure escapism finished, and to you, it forms you a pure Clancy fan. Differently than many in the ' feeler gauge ' Genren, which was not to produce acceptable nothing since the cold war terminated (John LeCarre

starsNot one of my Clancy favorites
Good book, but not memorably.

starsClancy Classic ~
This Clancy classical author is a wonderful small history. I read this book between 5th and 105th when visiting of New York town center and rode into an old taxi. Which I learned from the book, was a large aid for, which I found at my arrival...

starsGreat Book
Before one approximately I bought this book to month, before I left holidays on family. My flight was 4 hour a flight and I read the book the complete flight. I became strained this book and I wanted not it down to set, when I finally landed. It holds you in the tension and I could not wait, in order to read, what happened first. This is a large to buy book, even if you are not a heavy reader, you becomes strained

starsOne of Clancy's best
I am a very large Tom Clancy fan, therefore do not care me I, over if you think that this report is a little partial. I would like to mention however that, after all ichgelesen its work of the invention ichgelesen had, which is free and present danger of one of my favourites. There are lots to activity, plot and plotlines in this, straight like its other fine books, but with 650 sides, it it is inserted all into a firmer package (well-known for unintiated, Clancy of books to exceed around 1000 sides.) Two of my favourite letters, John Clark and bells Chavez, receive a good quantity of airplay (readplay?) here. Other books with the letters, including without Remorse and rainbow six, were dull, but they shine really here. Cannot help a direction of loyalty between these two however believe, after its stories read here. This was the first Clancy book, which is I... it really good again-read! (I could also add at this point, how the film justice did not do to the book....but, which you already knew that, not them?)

starsexcellent clancy at his best
this is definitely one of best books clancys. it has a very good story LINE and a Plot. it is also much emotionl a book, which I mean, whom didnt here grain its teeth at the knight or schnittmeister or the president I recommends to u purchase this book immediately.

starsBUY IT!
This is a great book. I couldn't put it down until I fell overcause I was so tired. Well, just buy it. It's well worth the $.

starsAnother good Clancy book screwed up by Hollywood
Again I feel forced, in order to speak with those from you to, only the Tom Clancy as "be based up" credit note of a film know. My problem with the film version of this book can be summed thusly: Bob knight Hollywoods is disloyal a douche bag, which cuts the commands off simply, because it more simply as if is, fighting for her. Bob knight Clancys holds loyalty as the highest virtue. It formed its names in the CIA, by going against orders behind the iron curtain, which had been blown escaping one its representative to cause their cover. So if you saw only the film, buy the book and meet you to the real Bob knight.

starsA classic action novel.
I was always an eager reader, but for me I must find a book, which my interest does not only up-rise up, but it also holds. I cannot explain to you, many incomplete paperbacks I has a lying over my house, because I could not mark straight by the book. "free and present danger" was not left unread. Actually I again-read this book at some opportunities. I had begun to read the Jack Ryan number of the novels from order and then I decided to read her in the order. As soon as I arrived at this book, I could not set it down literally. It is of the Clancy registered registered trade marks "Techno technical language" fully, but at the heart of it everything was a very well explained history. If you are not familiar with any the Tom Clancy of novels, this book is one of many in, which came, when the Jack Ryan number of the books admits. Jack Ryan is a former navy, which works at present for the CIA as an analyst. By a row very exciting and frequently sad circumstances, he begins, to move by which agency above and taken part in many exciting adventures. Along the way gets used to it a worker, who admits as a Mr. Clark is. Clark is a very mysterious, frequently ominoese illustration, which appears more frequent, while the Jack Ryan row gets ahead. In this payment by instalments the president explains and not more officially and possibly invalid war against the Colombian drug trust. The activity, which takes place deeply in the mountains of Colombia, in detail large avowedly and can be with difficulty frequent read, but, if you reach the high point, you are glad, which clung with this book. If you think, know this history, because you saw the Filmanstarren Harrison Ford, you are wrong. The book was so good that I could not be anything, but disappointed, when I saw the film. I know that some people, which read and said this book they loved it. From the older adults High School and to the students, if you look for a really good book, and tension, then to this is geschaeftig the book for you. And if you not already read "Patriot plays", you knew attempt think for wishing it, because it was also far better than the film version.

starsOutstanding!
This was an excellent Plot. The white house forms an effort to destroy the drug lords from Colombia to. The forces of the United States smooth bomb a meeting of the drug main persons of Colombia. The collecting main plan begins a coming completed. The forces of the United States are left by the forces within the white House. The daily stored by the crucial hero Jack Ryan. After the audition radio messages, which go to Ryan for assistance from the abandoned troops to plead, to Colombia and stores the day even the drug dealer double cross. A outstanding book.

starsGreat!
This is one of the best books, which I read by Tom Clancy. There is always alot to the activity and the tension. The book starts, if coast holds Gaurd scherblock two drug runners. The United States decide then to set up survailence on well-known airports in Colombia which as them is drug-used, runners and then the surfaces intercept, before they reach their place of destination. Later in the book the drug lords kill the director FBI and two other high government official. In the retaliation the United States send four hidden crews into the mountains of Colombia, in order to destroy drug refining of places of assembly. The drug lords find soon over it and begin the hunt them out down. Over to find out which happens following reads you this book. In high of degrees recomend I it.

starsRyan's review
Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger is about the U.S.A's war on illegal drug trafficking. Domingo Chavez and Mr. Clark, Clancy's action men, are called into action after a U.S. foreign minister is killed in Bogota, Columbia. The response to the killing is tremendous. The U.S. government sends four tactical teams of Green Berets into the mountains of Columbia to stomp out the drug making facilities and to kill the drug dealers. I liked a lot of things in this book like the amount of action. Every page had a piece of action that made this book great. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book full of action.

starsAwesome book
Most people, which the book repeated and received konfus with all Nebenhandlungen and "do not flatten it" letters liked. Attitude of ringing and Clarks in this book is substantial for the other books. Over the lines in the book you unite completely too received must the other books in the Jack Ryan row read. I read all and recommend I her in high of degrees everyone. These are amazing books by an amazing author.

starsProbably Clancy's best book
This is probably Clancy's best book. It is a nice tight action packed story without the usual worthless subplots. It doesn't have the heavy handed patriotism of most of Clancy's other books. This book is deeper because there is a lot of questionable, ruthless government activity that isn't glorified or praised.

This book has the best character development of any of Clancy's book. Clancy's most interesting, best rounded character is introduced in this book-Ding. (No, it's not John Clark/Kelly, although he is also at his best in this book.) Unfortonately, Clancy will flatten them out in later books.

This book is unusual. Clancy's strength is war games and the techno thriller. He usually falls flat on his face when he departs from that formula (Without Remorse, Sum of All Fears, Cardinal of the Kremlin, and most of Executive Orders). But this book is about the Drug Wars, only has a small section of war games and is still a very interesting story.

starsPEDRO'S REVIEW
Free and present danger is the finest at all written Clancy book. Before reading off this book, I enjoyed the row au5$erordentlich, but I am now in the love with it. This book combines the secret and the tension of the finest Sherlock of cross-beam history, the activity of a Stallone of film and a row excellent of intermediary aluminum conditions and back stories. The genius from Clancy is that it forms and in its a character believes the Leserobacht approximately, and this book is the Pinnacle of its genius

starsExcellent book, action and suspense
This book is so good. The action is exciting, and you are always on the edge of your seat wondering how the battle is going to end. Also, Clancy is obviously anti-drug, with both this book and Without Remorse. Buy this book, it is a must-have Clancy, without a doubt.

starsWOW....Be Blown Away
I was an eager SF reader untill, which I read free and present danger. This was my first Clancy book and I now plans on measured value it all. IchWAR not in the situation to set this book down, which held itself it straight, me in history got caught thus above, I Messwertuntill held, I was done. If you to be away burned through would like read this book!

starsDull.....
I estimate that I am not a large fan of Clancy. I loved the red storm, which rises, because of it, am abundance at the military knowledge, at the activity, at the tension and at the Plot. I mean, who am a book, which a very large quantity of contents has and justifies, 1000 sides to be itself long. But all of its other books, including CAPD are 250 side of novels, which are extended with the boring of the lengthy detail. Someone should to its books goes cut the whole unnecessary flap text out and releases it. I would buy it, since it is free the fact that there is a good Plot at the work but, it to follow like a reading off by molasses is.

starsA Review On "Clear and Present Danger"
Murder, secret service operations within the government, drugs and the few, that risks its lives, in order to stop it all, are, which you find to Tom Clancys in the free and present danger. Drugs are imported into the United States and the American people not much to approve. In order to stop and its popularity for upcoming the choice increase the supply of the Betaeubungsmittel, the president began a row secret service operations. It gives a man, the government is too received, Felix Cortez, out and straight like it will do, are not not still rather clear them. Dr. Ryan is out to stop the enterprises before it of the control and to the public go out out, but straight as and why he somewhat like that would do? Clancy stories, many over government and military enterprises, distance of futuristic (net strength) at the gift, it-can-happen kind of novels (danger rainbow six, free and present). Its kind is to explain each last word and situation at the beginning and leave you, in order to repel for even toward to the end. It is in detail low and geweiht giving you all background informations. This starts stories to start slowly. While you continue on in the book, references become less and explains less and history waives faster. Even if he explains in his novel some the military designations and the procedures, if you are not familiar on a familiar level with them, it can keep quite difficult. Free and present danger is not an exception. Clancy is, nontheless, an expert author and a story plate. Its ability to surround you with the sight and tones within the book are extraordinary. I would give this book concerning an average notch of three from five. The beginning receives one climbs from approximately two, not for detail and clarity, but for lack of tension or activity. Clancy caused catchier openings. The end of the book receives approximately four for tension and interesting torsions, but again, it more absorbent is manufactured closings. Free and present danger, my opinion after, was only middle ones of the road. Tom Clancy, although talented, has better work written.

starsTimeless application
"free and present danger" investigates the bypasses of the leaders, that use their office as platform for personal agenda: This is a fictitious account of the lives consequently, which are lost, and which moral courage, which, around cowardice on the highest level of the government to work against neccessary is, which find its corallary in the innumerable historical accounts of the leaders, which have the moral losses, which are led to substantial destruction. The book raises also some good questions over hidden international intervention, and fleshes from the personal letter-centered nature of so strives. Similar hidden activity is present in many of Clancys other novels, but the crucial nature of the motive is obviously represented here. This is a good study in the guidance, as well as an excellent patriotic thriller and a maintenance, which are read.

starsTerrific!
This was a large book. After I had read rainbow 6, main header I this book up and was not it was wonderfully written and had Ryan and his darker side Mr. Clark disappoints. The film had taken place well, but this book is FAR better. My recommendation the books in the order one reads. Without Remorse first.

starsclear and present danger
I really enjoyed this book. I like particularly books with Chavez or Clark in him. If you love good activity and a large book, read this. Chavez is mainly in this connection that most. I love its character and his expert shot. A large book.

stars"VARIABLE, this is Knife! Where the heck are you?" . . .
If a yacht is found to float from Panama with six dead bodies and two merciless murderers/rapist on board away we take war on drugs it up to a new level, if the president, a friend of the murder victim and its family, that explains drug trust a "free and present danger" as the American life. Jack Ryan must represent out, what US to and it are to be stopped, before he is discovered by the irreconcilable international community.

starsAwesome book
1. Tom Clancy book I read a going reading from many more to

starsGreat!
Although the cases are a point, which is slow at the beginning, this novel never stops, in order to fascinate you, as soon as things keep going. From the secret service operations to the conspiracy, he has her all.

starsClear and Present Danger
Very good book highly recommend

starsClear and Present Danger
This book is that best book of the Clancys and possibly even best book, at all, which I read. Although Jack Ryan does not appear, before first 100 sides and there are discussable, if it is the Hauptcaharacter at all, as into most Clancys other books - John Clark and bells Chavez have also large part in the book, it are such a pleasure to read thus act-on-packed book with also large world intelligence in the armament. And Felix Cortéz is the best letter of the bad chap, whom I met at all. I must probably read it again a daily, it am such a bright book.

starsAmazing, clancy does it again
this man is amazing. I read 5 of its books and am this the best (RAINBOW 6 approximates). I love, as he develops the Plot and you away with some hundred sides of the pure activity burns through if you with the names remain can (I received scherblock and knight mixed up several times), which this announces for you a large is.

starsThe Bestselling Author of Hunt For Red October Does It Again
The book, Clear And Present Danger, by Tom Clancy is quite possibly the greatest book I've ever read. This book is about the adventures of Staff Seargent Ding Chavez as he accompanies a team of light infantry men on a covert operation to sting the drug Cartel of South America. A secret agent named John Clark is the information specialist who provides the team with targets. The modern day U.S. government sees the drug Cartel as "clear and present danger" to the security of the United States. Throughout this action-packed book there are many exciting and unexpected happenings that leave the reader on the edge of their seat.

Tom Clancy had to spend years creating this truly fascinating, yet adventurous book; it would have been impossible not to. It would be a grave mistake not to read this book. If you make that mistake, I'm sorry. If I were you, I would by this book right now, on Amazon.com.

starsA good read - Great to see how Chavez comes into play
If justice is to be done, Tom Clancy must never again allow one of his books to become movies, at least without his approval of the script.

This book hits high political realities as well as documenting our countries frustration with drugs, and who is to ultimately blame for them; the user or the seller.

In classic Clancy style, the book takes you along the road of conspiracy, espionage, murder, and war, and just as it does that, Clancy throws the political realities in the middle and the reader is left to shake his head and wonder what can be done about the drugs coming into our country.

The ending fits together a little to nicely for me, not to mention that Clark does some uncharacteristic things. All in all it's a good read. A must for Clancy lovers of all stripes.

starsBEST BOOK OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!
If you hear...... okay, it saw something from you out there that this film well the book from the water and then unite it burns through. I liked personally the film, but the book is ehrfuerchtig. Differently than the film this is not whole over Jack Ryan. It speaks much about all letters. Bells Chavez one inserts in this book. it is realy coolly a letter. Its friends (in his group) like Vega and Leon are to there are TONS of activity you fair necessity to wait few when cool. There is a bundle battles, which are so discriptive, that, which you believe that you are there. They learn much over weaoons, tactics, military, fight and much, much more. If you read this book and it did not like, i pitty they THIS WAS EHRFUERCHTIGES!!!!!!

starsWhy am I adding to 60 reviews?
a ' cause, which I think that it gives A LITTLE more to say to! This is not a super+patriotic book; on the other hand it IS heavy in the detail and it gives some too many plotlines, IMHO fairly. If you have the patience, to by little technical technical language to slide however this is large activity a novel! The facts behind this history are these: in the Colombian druglord Pablo Escobar a surface with 3 American members blew up late ' eighties on board. It was not however interested on a Kolumbianer in them, which had crossed it! George Bush reacted, by causing a secret unit of the Colombian commands, which are inaugurated taking out druglords. Despite many accident Escobar was finally brought to rifle bullets on the roof of its Bogata mansion in embarrassment and solved with attack rifle. The group continued wiping trusts the Medellin and Cali drug - naturally, new stepped narco trafficers simply inside! Clancy gives us a fictitious version with possibly unites to many reasons to regard military intervention and its commands United States army Foerster with Satellitenuplinks are to designate in laser guided the flight impacts - this is definitely a novel for Technolaunen! CIA means Ryans (nearly) individual-handed over rescue of the survivors and United States an undersecretary of state flies down, to with a gauner Cuban Colonel familiarly zuSEIN, are strong one to swallow point,; still this is a tearing up yarn!

starsStunning detail. Fascinating. Starts off with a bang!
If you're as sharp as a sack of wet mice, couldn't draw a straight line if you had a ruler, have no interest in things more complex than tinkertoys, only recently learned to tie your shoes or otherwise non-technically minded (as applies to some in this world), this book will probably make you puke. ON THE OTHER HAND, if you love the way Clancy fills in the details, this one's for you! Techno-freaks will love this one!

starsTHIS IS AMERICAN CULTURAL MANURE AT ITS WORST!
From all terrible books I, must read this the worst be. Spirit-loose American Patriotismus (something, which me kotzen wish lets) and an amazing inability to write to lines the reader by this book connected with terriblly long and totally uninteresting letter descriptions of the stereotypischen procurementnesses. Obession Clancys with technical names of the different weapons slow the book down to a stop. The thought of processes of the different letters are like that unreif and idiotic, which were left to me miracles, which kind of the weak head fertilizer could write in such a way. Remain away of this book, and in addition, stay away of everything this Tom Clancy writes. Only leichtglaeubige Americans could so perhaps swallow literature, as the other reports show.

starsdefinately the best clancy book yet
this is a cool book clancy has the right idea with this free and present danger has a tidy Plot, a much the activity and interesting letters if all authors like this marking to write could finished mine job and read the remainder of my life.

starsGreat Writing
Other well getanes book done of Tom Clancy. A wonderful description of the corruption of the government. An excellent book nevertheless with difficulty to read at the points.

starsNot Clancy's best, but still good
This is a good book, but focuses a little to much on details. The first several hundred pages are difficult to follow, but after that the book really picks up. The ending is tremendous and unpredictable. All in all, this book has a strong storyline, but gets muddled in all the extraneous detail.

starsWould make a good movie
Tom Clancy should stick with playing with his Tec-9 in the basement of his mansion, instead of pretending that he can write.

starsWould make a good movie
Tom Clancy should stick to playing with his Tec-9 in the basement of his mansion, instead of pretending that he can write.

starsFully Satisfied..
Out I am on my second measured value of this book, after ichgelesen ichgelesen had it, when he came first 10 years before. Everything, which I can say, is WOWS. I am, during so now fasten this times, as I forwards was, and even. The Plots, the details, the etc. forms for one of Clancys most finely. I read eyes of the hammer, and unsatisfied with him only one historical line and only 350 are found or paged so. I wish to be included personally my invention with, and Clancy fulfills completely.

starsThis is a great book.
Many reviewers dismiss Tom Clancy as a poor writer who simply puts on paper techno-babble and machismo. That is not the case, and this book should convince anyone that Clancy is an able writer, who is able to build and sustain suspense over hundreds of pages.

starsCompelling, One of his best!
I loved clear and present danger although the movie sucked. I was captivated from the beginnig the plot does take a while to develop as in all clancy books but the beginning was still exciting. Go clancy!

starsTom Clancy Should NOT be doubted!
If this breath takes novel, Tom Clancey adds more anouther masterpeice of its long line of the books. For those, which have the higher intellect and the patience, I would recommend this book. For all different one: Mabey, if you terminated the book you, would like it.

starsClancy at his absolute best.
A combination of absolutely accurate technical wizardry, hot action, and true to life soldiers make this novel one of the best reads I've had in years. Clancy knows his stuff. Not only does he get the weapons and tactics right, he also shows dramatically exactly what it's like to be a soldier in a fire fight, cut off from all help, while conrades die all around you. Not a novel for those who prefer comic books, or who can't follow a true to life plot, but if you want to know what it's really like to be in enemy territory with no one to depend on but your buddies and your skills, this novel can't be beat.

starsToo much detail.
I waded through the first 150 or thus sides and kept lost in the detailed descriptions of the letters. Detail is fine, but is better smaller. Clancys "the hunt for red October" was better.

starsTerrible, awful, lousy.
As usual, this is pure Clancy crap: cardboard characters. egomaniacal wet-dream rantings of an adolescent idiot.

starsPRETTY WEAK IN MY OPINION
I didn't actually finish this book because I didn't have the patience to. I got about 150 pages into it and decided I didn't want to continue reading. I agree with other reviewers about Clancy making the character's roles hard to follow, and furthermore he goes into way too much technical detail on everything. It's good for an author to go into detail about subjects, but Clancy over does it to the point that it gets in the way of the plot. Definitely not a book I'd recommend.

starsTom Clancy does it again!! Another Masterpiece!!
The fourth book, in chrological order, of the Jack Ryan novels. Jack Ryan returns in an exciting thriller. In Tom Clancy's usual form the pace of the book is hot and fast, switching between Columbia and the USA. Technological information abounds so everyone can understand how the gadgets and weapons really work. With orders to strike elements threatening the National Security of America, the military and CIA start an operation. The elements (predictibly) take offence at this and strike back, eliminating key personel. In return the military operation is stepped up until it is pulled out from under the soldiers' feet. Ryan, Murray (from Patriot Games) and Jackson (Patriot Games and Red October) plan and excecute an evacuation, but not before the military have taken heavy casualties. Finally, the book ends with some heafty changes at higher levels. This book develops the character of Mr "Clark", and finds him an assistant, "Ding" Chavez, and also introduces FBI Inspector Day.

starsCONFUSING
There are too many plots in the beginning which makes it difficult to follow.

starsRIDEN SEZ: THE BEST WRITER SINCE DREISER
SOCK IT TO ME, TOM. Not only is Clancy one of the holy trinity of American Writers (Clancy, Kryton, Wallers), but his spy schemes are just fabulous. There's not enough room here for my raves(sp?), but I did meet Tom once and one things for sure: he's a gentleman. That matters these days, because its hard to trust people. I've read most of his stuff and this book kept me guessing until the fourth to last page (I was keeping track). I'm sure it will keep any of you guessing even longer.

starsVery well written, Slow at first.
Clear and Present Danger was the best book I've ever read. Before this book Michael Crichton was my favorite author abut now it's Tom Clancy. Very well written. Takes a while to get the plot fully developed. Sometimes hard to keep up with characters and what they do.

starsAn exciting and suspense filled novel.
An American family is murdered brutally on a private yacht in the Caribbean water. Three American officials are killed on an attendance to Colombia. And interior cover a war is begun between America and the drug realm in Colombia. Despite its length this book was material page Turner. The Plot was very exciting and full from the breath-robbing tension. It was also from the special ones over many topics, of which politics to the way fully, which works on a special kind infantry. I am the kind of the person, who loves this kind of the detailed information. Free and present danger supplies also an interesting political prospect. In the book the president begins interior cover a war simply, because it is election year and it would like to keep red-elect. And a high government official receives erprgessen and decides to secretly kill more than 40 people so that it is not sent to the prison. There is a new and terrible rotational acceleration to the policy. Tom Clancy is the master suspenseful of the activity and its readers not with this book abandoned. This was a large book and my favourites. I would recommend definitely free and present danger, around peoples, whom details, tension, complaint and food on the brain to enjoy.

starsMore fact than fiction.
When I first read this throbbing tale a number of years ago, I was captivated by the high-tech gadgetry used by our government and the sophisticated equipment, i.e., underground labs, that the drug lords used in the manufacturing of cocaine. Having more recently read a true crime book titled "CIA: Cocaine In America," which, insofar as the facts therein are concerned, predates "Clear and Present Danger," I now realize how Mr. Clancy was able to write this book and be so doggoned accurate (albeit out of date) with the fact-based elements of the story. What's even more exciting, however, is that "CIA: Cocaine In America" is actually a far better read...I'd give it ten stars if I could. If you've read Clancy, you must read "CIA..."

starsClancy at his best
This was the first Clancy book I read, and is the reason that I like the author. From the moment my dad suggested I read at a bookstore in Alberta to the day at camp nearly a month later when I finished it, I could not put this book down. Clancy's novel about the Columbian drug cartel, and the US Governments secret operation to cripple is undoubtedly among may top five favourite books. If have not read Clancy, and would like to start, READ THIS BOOK. If you have read Clancy before, but have not read this book, DEFINITELY READ THIS BOOK.

starsExcuse me, but? Good fiction and remember that it is.
This is the read fun. But it is not reality. Clancy knows many story LINES together is spiders and most of its technical material is quite on the money. Up to now so well. How however it does not have a reference point, which it should be one of the chaps from the reason. How would the military join a crew of particular, infantry chaps, in order to let these run ops? Why do they have Spezifikt. ops? Triangle? Duh? OH- well. They wish the same history, which is explained in a more realistic way? Examine from eyes of the hammer. By a former green toque, which about which knows, it writes.

starsBrilliantly brilliant.
I didn't read the book, but I watched it and I know it's magnificent. Tom Clancy could really build up the story and if you read it, I guarantee it's unputdownable.

starsFantastic Thriller
This is the best Tom Clancy book, which I read up to now. It was amazing, as all Plotpunkte came together for one rousing high point. Although there were many letters, I did not have a trouble to hold with history above. Some it could believe that the topic of the book is outdated, but the abuse of the energy by a president still another worthwhile topic is.

starsAn essential item for a flight to Australia
As Terry, which to Pratchett, a Tom Clancy novel said, a substantial piece is equipment for a flight to Australia. Only you are not silence measured value it, if you receive there, but you can use it, in order to strike queues with thereafter. This is not a negative note. It is a positive:) Some people weight about the quantity of the technical detail in the books Mr. Clancys, but I find it add realism. It around understanding is not never ensured, how a peice of the equipment in one of its books works! Which concerns this certain, I let pretty wells handle to read over the Jack Ryan row backwards and begin to red Octobers, then at the implementing regulations and so on back down the line. This book answered, thus many questions for me was unbelievable it. The letters are realistically - although I was not completely safe, who the hero were, until I carried out that it was Ryan. And Clark. And Chavez. And occasionally Moira wolf, captain Wegener, Colonel Johns. And to different others, which I cannot remind at the moment me. The equipment is exactly described affectionately, the positions, which are wastefully described, the quite bezaubernde total effect. However... you do not try to compare this book with the film. not only Dan Murray (view away, if you do not wish robbers), director FBI in the last book of the row is received killed, (view back now), but Bob, which is knight the half bad chap, devolps the conscientiousness in the book, person approximately confusing, pastures, unbarmherzigesbas... in the film and so on down the line. Generally: This book is PROPERTY! Read it!

starsUnbelievable!!!!!
Clancy at his best!!! This novel about the Columbian Drug Cartel and the American Government's resopnse to them is riveting!!! It puts the movie to shame. If you have never read Clancy, I suggest this one. If you have read Clancy before, but haven't read this, read it!! You don't know what you're missing!!

starsExcellent!
Again Tom Clancy was successful, if he formed an amazing book. It was definately worth that one sleepless nights, when I could not stop to read straight!

starsExcellent!!! Clancy at his best!!!
One of the best that I have read. Clancy makes sure that you have enough detail about the characters and plot, but "just" enough. He really weaves an excellent plot in this one. Though a leangthy one, this book is worth all the late-nights that I spent on it - just couldn't make myself put down the book.

starsOne of Clancy's Best
Tom Clancy wrote free and present danger with a good taste of the military excitement as well as overtalk the policy. All in all, "free and present danger" is a credited book also TO MANY POLICY concerned. Scenes fasten infantry written well however and the film were each point, which is as good as the book. Free and present danger be based on a special Ops bright infantry, which fights a drug trust in Colombia, but, if Jack Ryan finds the truth about opeations, he must the infantry received exracted, before she is too late.

starsExtraordinary
I read this book 5 years ago. It was truly addicting. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book, is a hallmark in all of Tom Clancy's books, his strict attention to detail. From characterization, to the implementation of numerous technical, military, and political protocol, this book will leave readers with just one dilemma, the addition of this book to a list from which to choose as their favorite. In my opinion, Mr. Clancy has truly cornered the market in the genre.

starsClassic Clancy!
Over now there, which I talkin '! are! Although recently Tom Clancy came under fires of the critics, one does not know its earlier efforts forgotten still refuses its earnings/services. Free and present danger is possibly the best example of the gentleman. Abilities Clancys, which are impressing indeed. Whether it is espionage, military tactics, government conspiracy or plausible, become future film scripts, which you, crave fulfills you, by this effort. It is not is impressing length (compared with some Tomes newer of Mr. Clancys), and it notifies no material moral announcements and exhibitions to wade to. Entirely, Clancy at the top side of its form and in high of degrees recommended.

starsClancy's Best Work Ever!
Ever since I borrowed Clear And Present Danger from my school library to read over the holidays, I have been hooked on Tom Clancy ever since. I have read 4 of his novels (Op Centre, Mirror Image, Clear And Present Danger and Hunt For Red October) and am currently reading Patriot Games. I would have to say that Clear And Present Danger is the best book he has so far written and I endeavour to read all of his current titles. I may just be a small person in Australia but I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the mystery/thriller genre that Tom Clancy specialises in. Judging from the average rating for this novel, I can safely say that many people agree with me.

starsAn excellent book and frighteningly realistic!
Forwards I am a Dutch fan of Mr. Clancy and I this book already some time read. I hold to again-read it because it does not only offer somewhat good maintenance to the reader, but it you all kinds activities by different services of CIA and of American army shows; You really seize activity scenes in the book by the throat and as soon as you begin, cannot to read you not stop. I recommend this book in high of degrees.

starsEx- Navy Seal in action
I terminated straight Tom Clancys "free and present danger". It is one large book, 688 sides and it lasted me when, in order to terminate it. I recommend it in high of degrees. It marks ' John Clark ' the naval seal in the secret service operations. This chap is cooling in Colombia material. In a scene it holds a diagram over around directions of the helpers of the drug lord on looking for for gold and in a calm way asks, while its right hand behind its is the back, which takes rifle off with a muffler and then it two chaps fastened. Entry thread ' EM right in the forehead of 10 foot way and then he shoots the third chap, a park truck goes around very smoothly. Let us go receive it!!!

starsToo confusing for easy reading
I bought this book, over to read during on holidays. I found its way of writing more confusing (technically) as really necessary was. It had a quantity on letters, which it sometimes referred by its first name, last name or pointed name. I was was constantly confusing letters or forgetting, who a certain letter was. The historical line is the United States, which go to drug traffikers. Now possibly, when this book came out first 1989, this was exciting, spreading history, however 1998, found I that I had a pretty good idea, like history in was to turn out. This, together with which me causes confusing kind, in which Tom Clancy writes, of through-supplying to the book approximately the 1/4 of the way through down - it was straight not worth my time to wade through it. I white that Clancy for his technical detail, however I admits its kind believed, which became to keep straight read in the way of a good history and the pleasing.

starsOK, but not as realistic as most readers think.
I've worked in special operations for two decades and this book is obviously written by someone from the outside looking in. It's a good book, but please don't think it's reality. You want a book about the same subject matter that is closer to what has really gone on, I recommend Bob Mayer's EYES OF THE HAMMER. Mayer is a former Green Beret who knows what he's talking about.

starsVery Good, Very Realistic, Very Coincidental?
This was actual the best Clancy book, which I had already read, one of the best books, which I had read period. After reading off some from books OI center Clancys, I began to lose confidence in it (in former times one of my favourite authors). To this book reminds certainly me on, which Clancy is able. As small added premium I happened straight to terminate the fair hours of the book before it was announced that US took the terrorist goals in Afghanistan and in the Sudan in the material life in attack! Freaky!

starsUnclear and past belief
Disappointing - the main plot is quite good, but Clancy's subplots slow things down and get in the way (especially the Coast Guard scenes) and are unbelievable. The techno parts which give this and and his other books their uniqueness, also cause things to slow down. Also I don't know if I had a defective binding, but several scenes were repeated in my copy. Better editing would have vastly improved this work.

starsTHE MOVIE'S PATHETIC BUT THE BOOK IS GOOD
The only thing the movie is good for is for you to laugh at it. In comparison the book is absolutely fantastic but when compared with other Clancys it comes down a few notches. Don't get me wrong, I thought the book was very good and I especially loved the development of the character John Clark but it doesn't quite live up to the expectations that Clancy set for himself in Patriot Games and The Cardinal of the Kremlin. (Is it just me or is anyone else starting to think that Jack Ryan is an oversized boyscout?). Still it's a must read in the Ryan saga.

starsAWSOME!!!
This book is totally awsome. It is most certainly Clancy's best book. Definitely a five star book.

starsIncredible Writing
This book is incredible. You can't stop turning the pages. You need to know what is going to happen next. The book ranks right up there with Hunt For Red October. You become easily attached to all the characters and it's hard to let go once you see what happens to a few of them. If you want a good thriller or you just need to read a good book, GET THIS ONE!!!

starsExcellent Book!!
Free and present danger by Tom Clancy is an exciting book, that you to explain to be able was very well investigated. The feelings of Treachery, of death, of wrong, of fear and of many different are well described, while United States soldiers are sent deeply into the heart of the hostile area, and abandoned then. The Plot is complicated, is simple it, which up, because of the difficult descriptions of the letters, the tools, which she goes to use, and the climate to explain in which they function. This book is excellent and I recommends it to everyone, which likes fast-walked activity.

starsExcitement Galore!
This mark Tom Clancy takes on the drug war. Draw good activity and very fast walked. An improvement over its last Outing "in the cardinal of the Kremlin".

stars100 Times Better than the Movie
Yes, this book is long. Yes, it is involved. Yes, the characters are described in intimate detail. But these characteristics are what makes this book so great and the movie such a complete joke by comparison.

The plot is fascinating and you really find yourself wrapped up in so many sub-plots that eventually come together. Clancy is a master at this genre.

starsGreat Book!
The book was read excelent for everyone, which likes military invention. The activity was continuous and you wanted the book down to never set. It was one Clancys best of Tom.

starsBest Clancy book EVER!
This book is definitely the best book Clancy has read up to now. Absolutely amazing Plots. A must read for a Clancy fan.

starsKudos from an Army Ranger
If you don't like this book it is because you don't appreciate the flavor of something real when you see it. This is the best book I have read to date. I can only hope that the military guru has a future novel about rangers. It's probably the only thing that will ever exceed "Clear and Present Danger" by a long shot. "Executive Orders" is a close second though. If you think that his character histories are too long would you marry someone you know little about? You need all the history you can get in order to truly be engrossed in a 1000 plus page novel. The screen writers should be dismissed as sesame street co-writers.

starsGreat book
This book was really good. If you saw the movie and liked it, you really need to read this book.

starsThe Best Clancy Ever!!!!!!!
If I could give a higher evaluation, I became. Before although, which first times I read, this book years was, I tried still to again-read it now and then everyone and I mean the complete book. It becomes with activity and completely pleasing letters, which are either the Helder the largest or, the most infamous packed of villians. I recommend in high of degrees this novel to each possible fan of the Genren or everyone, fair love a good history.

starsbest book i've ever read
if you've never read clancy, this could be a difficult book to get into, as it was in my case. however, once past trying to remember what person fit with what name it became the greatest book i've read in my entire life. i've read it twice just to make sure. this book makes you feel things you lead a somewhat bland existence. i actually raged at some of the characters because they were so human and so despicable in what they were capable of. from the ratings, you know it's a good book if there is no middle ground. people either love or hate the book, and you just have to take the chance that you might hate the book or you might miss out on one of the best thrillers in existence

starsIt's not about drugs it about honor!!!!!
This book was about the often overlook issue of drugs coming into this country. One of clancy better books that takes you into the corrupt bussiness of the druglords smuggling drugs,to terrorism and to the betrayal of the U.S marine soldiers on colombian soil where all except one of the task groups survived!! I would advise any who like military thrillers to get this book! did i mention it was a great movie staring Harrison Ford!!

starsOne of Clancy's best novels!
I loved this history. I loved the new letter Chavez! Books Clancys are long and not for the simple cared. If you cannot hold above, you do not like probably any of its books. Large detail over weapons and techniques. Loose activity. Large read!

starsRelentlessly Good!!
This is the best novel I have read in years. No surprise that it came from Clancy! I recommend that hoplophobic wimps not read Clancy, then they won't scare themselves as one reviewer apparently did.

starsEnjoyable, action packed thriller.
The book of the beginning enjoyed. Tom Clancy binds everything together into its stories. It gives always sufficient background on its uses Charaktern and each military equipment. Differently than some your rezensenten, I enjoy, reading and wish not the books, in order to cope in relatively few sides. I would suggest this book for everyone, enjoy plot.

starsClancy at his best
Once again Tom Clancy has written a novel of great intelligence and wonderful detail. Jack Ryan must face the president himself while combatting a secret war on drugs. The novel starts with an exciting beginning and brings all the sub-plots to a thrilling end in typical Clancy style. This is the best Clancy I've read yet

starsNot a page-turner by any standards
A tremendously long and boring account of the war against drugs. But Mr. Clancy seems to be too intent on explaining his 15-page histories of the characters and even of the firearms used by them that he sometimes seems to forget about the plot. In fact, in the synopsis at the back of my version of the book, it says that the cartel has pushed too far by assaninating the Director of the FBI and the Colombian Ambassador to the USA. But When do they get assasinated? in the first 50 pages? Think again. On the 313th page!! So it certainly didnt keep me on the edge of MY seat. The movie was brilliant, though. Maybe Mr. Clancy should take a few tips from it.

starsRiveting! A MUST READ-will keep you on the edge of your seat
Of Clancys best! Clancy has a skill for plot and tension, and holds the historical line to go strongly. I recommend all its books for realism and maintenance value. I always learn something from its books

starsRelentlessly bad
The impressive thing over "free and present danger,", as with other books Mr. Clancys, how long them are - side after page horrenden, entangled English is. After I had read the complete book (me with the flu and not still something was put above could not reach), I believed, as if I was struck; the thing ruined me extremely. It is not fair that it is badly written; it remains so affectionate on the tiresome details that for rifles and the act of violence, which to end one begins to be afraid for spirit health Mr. Clancys. That it is not to be determined with difficulty; its disappointment never to its army commado, shifted into a military fetisch, walk from each point - however the reader must be surprised, sake this man * *? this danger given, I accept Schnaepper that we must make him these possible to write considerable Pathologien to hold; but, lord, why must we it permitted publish

starsGood Stuff
Clear and Present Danger was far superior to the movie. The novel has action o'plenty, and some interesting issues raised about America's war on drugs (and a very intersting use of a laser-guided bomb, too!). The novel is not quite as good as Clancy's other works such as The Sum of All Fears, Debt of Honor or Executive Orders, but it still has some extremely entertaining moments. READ IT

starsThis book is about witchhunts.
Those is novel FREE ONE AND PRESENT DANGER over witchunts. The drug war angles only Serves contemporize this serious Parodie of the McCarthy era. The FREE ONE AND PRESENT ONE even reminds NAME DANGER this author of the national situation at this time (relative I by parents and grandparents). McCarthy used the measure stick of the free and present danger, like by the respectable court justice olive spiral of cross-beam fixed in the count part of the 19.jahrhunderts. Does so the presidents of the United States in the novel. In a part of the novel he says that the drug trusts "a free and present danger should be represented to the public security" and touched as such. Justice of cross-beam said, which resembled thing in its statement, which speaks for the court, which it said that nearly exactly the same thing (something of its DETAILS the same thing) would write this Clancy under the letter of commander in chief. While a Parodie of the McCarthy era I think, this novel is unusually well written. Clancy knows that his history and it consider present cases. Its attention for the detail and knowledge of the military small articles and the infrastructure of the military society is again in this novel apparrent. As, before Clancy uses well developed letters, which are very life genuine. Some of, whom have its readers before and even some new ones seen.
