Systematic Theology - (3-Volume Set)
Reviews:

starsA Master's Masterpiece
A must have systematic theology, I here refer to the unabridged 3 volume work!
Although I am not a postmillennialist and I do not reach to Hodge's work on a daily basis, I believe it to be full of truth and will and has been used, by the Spirit, to grow many of us in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior.
soli deo gloria - to God alone be the glory

starsDo you know Latin?
Hodge's work is one of the great reformed theologies ever done. For myself, though, I feel like I missed out on much of it because I don't read Latin! There are too many passages that are written in Latin and then expounded in English. If you don't read Latin, I would recommend "Great Doctrines of the Bible," by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, or "Systematic Theology," by Loius Berkhof.

starsNote Latin is deleted not translated
Note that the long Latin quotations in the original book were simply removed, not translated. Still valid even if many sections go above the head of the average reader -- much other sections are accessible and made howl-"l' to me is C reformed S. Lewis".

starsAbridged? Decimated!
No matter who who wants to read Hodge, should be matched with the edition of three volumes. Yes, there is remote too interaction with the pseudo-science of the day, but this loss of configurations of "shortening" in the whole centers of interest to no matter whom who would like to read Hodge initially. It is interesting that one of the sectors where cutting is most obvious is in the sector where the "writer" is in disagreement with Hodge more, that is the place of the "eschatology". The writer is Premillennialist and Hodge, as all Princetonians was clear Postmillennialist. If you want to read Hodge without excessive verbosity, buy contours of A.A Hodge "of the theology", which is based on very the same conferences as Charles Hodge published as his systematic. It is simpler, however does not change the truth the manner only this disorder half-compartment-towards the top. This shortening is a defamed Master.

starsOustanding Reformed Theology
Charles Hodge remains one of the largest theologists of America, providing a crunching and clear prospect tradition reformed for the traditional Christian doctrines. I also believe that it presents views of competition enough, although with a certain language which is typical time (the catholic readers can be put-with far by its terminology while referring themselves to their church). It is a very valid whole of volumes, showing clearness however that frequently misses in contemporary theology. Hodge is "the fundamentalist person of thought." It proves that one can meet the highest standards of the purse while affirming the biblical truth. The theological liberals who look in bottom of their noses the preserving Christians will have to think twice when they read the work of Hodge... if they are intellectually honest, that is.

starsA Nice More Compact Work of Hodge's Theology
This, naturally, is a shortening of the original of Hodge together of three volumes. The advantages of this book in opposition to the full whole of 3 volumes, are triple. Initially, you obtain the bases of the theology of Hodge in a volume. In the second place, it is easier to carry around with you for reading because you travel, etc... Three, this volume includes incisors questions of study to help to extend the profit of anybody a fuller catch of the systematic theology of Hodge (this is not included in three regulated volumes). This volume primarily cut three volumes drawn up to the naked needs in order to make the systematic theological exits available to a broader and larger base of reader (an idea that I think is very good). Moreover, all the bases of the theology of Hodge are presented method of theology, theology itself, with all the essential doctrines of the Christian faith (C-with-D. hello, the trinity, doctrines of Christ, the Holy Spirit, the church, etc...) This text of theology is one which is enormously salutary to the raftered theologist as well as the person of configuration which simply tries to gain a better arrangement of Christian theology. In my evaluation it is one of better systematic theologies available (this volume shortened like full three regulated volumes). This book will enormously help you in your theological efforts.

starsReformed Theology
The theology of Hodge of original was three great volumes, with the frequent pages quoted in Latin, German, Greek, and the occaisional of other languages. But, it was best American reformed theology of the turning of the century. Rough Edouard condensed and updated this work, and made readable (all in English). I recommend this book for any Christian interested in the deeper side of the faith, and also advises lira basic theology by Charles Ryrie like sight of balancing.

starsExtensive Graduate Level Theology
It is the most extended theology of the tradition REFORMED during rather recent time. Written by Charles Hodge, a professor at Princeton in the 1900' S early, it is an erudite presentation of the historical Christian faith. If you seek a major analysis of doctrines, with the consideration of the solutions of replacement (catholic, orthodoxe, and liberal) it is the book. Written to a graduated level, I do not recommend it before studying the theology of level of university. Initially read at least the "basic" theology of Ryrie (ISBN 089693814X). But for a really complete study, it is the book.
